This is our mission.

UTSRI is bringing Canada’s largest STEM competitions to the University of Toronto by 2027.

UTSRI exists to advance student-led innovation through national STEM competitions, conferences, and research-focused initiatives.

This is our purpose.

This is our aim.

UTSRI aims to provide hands-on research experience, mentorship, and a platform to showcase student innovation in Canada.

Round 1

In the first round of the competition, participants are tasked with submitting their project proposals. This is a crucial stage where contestants outline their research topic, objectives, and methodology. Proposals are evaluated based on their originality, feasibility, and alignment with the competition’s theme. Successful proposals will move on to the next round, where participants will have the opportunity to further develop their ideas.

Round 2

The second round of the competition culminates in a three-day nationwide conference, where participants showcase their projects through visually engaging posters. Beyond the poster presentations, the conference features a series of panels, speakers, and researchers who will host talks, and workshops, and present their latest research ideas and findings. This round provides contestants with a platform to not only present their research but also engage with a diverse range of ideas and perspectives from the broader STEM community. Participants will have the opportunity to network, collaborate, and gain insights into the latest developments in their field. The conference is a celebration of innovation and collaboration in STEM research.

Round 3

In the final round of the competition, participants will have the opportunity to delve deeply into their research topics. Contestants will collaborate with master’s, PhD students, and professors to work on their research projects. This collaboration will allow contestants to benefit from the expertise and guidance of experienced researchers, enhancing the quality and depth of their research. Additionally, contestants will have access to research funds provided by the Initiative through sponsorships. These funds can be used to cover research expenses such as materials, equipment, and travel costs. This round provides contestants with a unique opportunity to conduct meaningful research and make significant contributions to their field.
