Case Competitions

Turn your research dreams into reality! Compete in the 72-hour UTSRI Case Competition for high schoolers and undergraduate students — tackle real-world cases and win exciting cash prizes!

The UTSRI Case Competition is an annual nationwide research and innovation challenge where students tackle real-world problems through critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork. Participants develop and present solutions to case scenarios inspired by global issues in science, technology, and society – competing for prizes, mentorship opportunities, and national recognition.

The next High School Case Competition will take place in November 2026. More details will be released closer to the dates.

The UTSRI Case Competition followed a 72-hour format designed to challenge studentsโ€™ critical thinking, research, and presentation skills. Participants were given a complex, real-world STEM case and had 72 hours to develop innovative solutions. Working in teams, students conducted research, analyzed data, and crafted structured responses, which they then presented to a panel of judges in a 10–minute pitch followed by a 5-minute Q&A session. This fast-paced format tested not only their academic abilities but also their teamwork, time management, and communication skills under pressure.

Registration for the UTSRI High School Case Competition opens in late August or early September. Participants must compete as part of a team of 2โ€“4 members, and individual participation is not permitted.

Although teams compete together, all team members must register individually through the registration portal. During registration, participants will indicate their teammates so that teams can be properly recorded. Participants who do not yet have teammates may still register and will be connected with other unpaired participants to form a team.

Spots are limited, and registration will close once capacity is reached or when the registration deadline passes. After completing registration, participants will receive further instructions, competition updates, and case materials via email.
