(click the arrow to expand each)

Q: Do I need to register individually or as a team?

All participants must register individually.

Q: How many people can be on a team?

Teams can have 2 to 4 members from the same division and grade. (Unlike last year, teams of 3 are no longer mandatory.)

Q: Can I choose my own teammates?

Yes, participants may select their own team members: but each member must register individually before registration closes on Nov 12th.

Q: What if I don’t have teammates?

Don’t worry – just fill out this form [🔗 https://forms.gle/Si5wfSWU6aPJkBGA8], and we’ll add you to a Discord server where you can connect with other unpaired participants. From there, you can form a team, tackle the case together, and make new friends not only across the GTA, but also from Ontario and even across Canada.

Q: I’m a teacher or faculty advisor – can we request a group invoice for our students?

Yes! Teachers and faculty advisors are more than welcome to request a group invoice, which helps make the registration process easier for their students.

To do so, please email treasury@utsri.ca and cc casecomp@utsri.ca. Our team will follow up with the next steps and payment instructions.

Q: What is the registration fee per person?
  • Normal: $40 per person (Sept 7–Oct 15, 11:59 PM)
  • Extended: $45 per person (Oct 15–Oct 22, 11:59 PM)

Q: Is there a registration grace period?

Yes. We encourage everyone to register before Oct 15 (normal registration deadline). However, a 7-day extended period (Oct 15–Oct 22) is available for participants with extenuating circumstances.

Q: What are the divisions?

Teams compete in one of four divisions based on grade level and subject focus:

  • Junior Integrated Science (Grades 9–10)
  • Senior Physics (Grades 11–12)
  • Senior Biology (Grades 11–12)
  • Senior Chemistry (Grades 11–12)

Our cases are tailored to align with the Ontario (and Canadian) curriculum, and senior students can choose their division according to their interests.

Q: What is required for the case solution submission?

Each team must submit a 10-minute presentation (slides required). Additional materials (including models, prototypes, or trifold panels) are welcome but must be approved in advance by the organizing team at casecomp@utsri.ca. Further details on submission requirements will be released prior to the case release date.

Q: What are the case release and submission dates?

The case will be released at 11:59 PM on Oct 31, 2025, and all submissions are due by 11:59 PM on Nov 3, 2025.

Q: Do we need to be in-person for the competition?

Yes, there is an in-person portion to the competition. However, all cases will be released online, and teams will submit their solutions online during the 72-hour preparation period. This means you can work from anywhere, at any time you choose. The only in-person component is the team presentation, which will take place on November 8th, 2025 at the University of Toronto St. George (Downtown) campus.

Q: When is the case competition taking place?

On Saturday, Nov 8, 2025, from 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM (time tentative).

• 2nd place: $200
• 3rd place: $100
